This extension has been designed to be taken after one of our Tanzania safaris or a Kili climb.
Pongwe Beach Hotel is set on one of the most beautiful stretches of coast in the world, on the east coast of Zanzibar. There are just 10 guest cottages set in the lovely gardens, all with great views of the ocean. They have traditional lime-washed walls and palm-thatched roofs. All have ensuite bathroom with Moroccan-style walk-in showers. Each cottage also has its own private terrace. Pongwe has a spacious lounge and dining area. This is a tranquil location and a great place to relax after a safari or Kili climb.
The beach is great for swimming and snorkelling, as the bay's waters are protected by the reef, a kilometre from the shore. Pongwe has its own traditonal wooden long boat which can be used to gain access to the deeper waters beyond the reef. There is good snorkelling out at Mnemba Atoll where you can see many coral species and marine life and at Kizimkazi, where sharks, dolphins and turtles can be seen. Scuba diving can be arranged.
Spend lazy days by the pool or on the beach and if the heat of the sun is strong, retreat to the shade of the palm trees that line the bay. Boat trips and island excursions can be arranged for those wanting to explore more of Zanzibar.
