If you have time in Johannesburg, we highly recommend visiting Soweto. This famous township of about 2 million people is close to Jo'burg. On a guided tour you will see (amongst other things) tin shacks next to extremely affluent houses, the famous painted cooling towers, and you should also visit the fascinating Hector Pieterson Museum. It is an eye-opening tour which you shouldn't miss if you can help it.
This is a half day guided tour, including pick up and return to your Jo'burg hotel (Rivonia B&B or Peech Hotel).
