Description

Lima is a large city combining pre-Hispanic sites, colonial architecture and modern influences. The exact itinerary will depend on how much time you have, but will be based on the half day tour summarised below.

The half day tour will show you aspects of the many facest of the city. The historic centre of Lima is a UNESCO World Heritage site and here you'll find the main plaza and the grand colonial, palaces and churches. You'll see the Presidential Palace, the cathedral, City Hall and the Archbishop's Palace. But Lima isn't all grand palaces and you'll also spend time strolling through the old streets with their Moorish-style houses with their elegant balconies. Your guide will take you to the cultural neighbourhood os San Isidro, with its museums, churches and pre-Inca burying temple, still occasionally used for concerts and exhibitions today. This district is also home to many artists and notable residents - it is the most desired address in the city - such as the painter Fernando de Szyszlo and Frieda Holler, Miss Peru 1965! This is also Lima's garden district and your tour will take you to the open spaces of Olive Grove park, dating back to 1560 and the LarcoMar entertainment and shopping complex, a landmark of the modern city, carved into the cliffs from which there are fabulous views of the Pacific Ocean.

Detailed Itinerary

This option is designed to make good use of spare time you may have in Lima. This would normally be between a domestic and international flight connection. The amount of time spent on the tour will be dependent on your flight times but this will be no longer than a half day. The exact itinerary will depend on how much time you have, so may not include all the sites mentioned below.

You will see the main sites of down town Lima, including the main plaza, the Presidential Palace, the Archbishop's Palace, City Hall, the cathedral and the Desamparados train station. You will also spend time walking through some of the old streets with their elegant colonial town houses and balconies. The tour also visits the traditional neighbourhood of San Isidro, whose cultural heritage dates back to pre-Inca times, with a burying temple, these days sometimes used as concert and exhibitiion venue. Stroll through Olive Grove park, home to 15 species of birds as well as centuries old olive trees and take in the LarcoMar entertainment and shopping complex, with its boutiques, cafes, bars and restaurants, a landmark of modern Lima. The complex consists of three terraces carved into the Miraflores cliffs. From here you get great views of the Pacific Ocean.
