Description

This short itinerary extends your holiday in Nepal by 3 days. It is designed to work with the Kathmandu & Pokara itinerary or the Kathmandu & The Annapurna Trek itineray and starts on the morning you leave Bandipur, modifying the last days of your trip.

It is a really fabulous part of Nepal and gives you the chance to see some of the diverse wildlife that live down in the Terai. That's an area of grassland plains and forest that stretches for miles along the foohills of the Himalayas. Chitwan was Nepal's very first national park established back in the early seventies and it is home to the rare Asian one-horned Rhino that thrives in this habitat. That's the one that looks as though it is wearing an armour-plated suit. And there are lots of other mammal species here too. This includes sloth bears and tigers, wild boar, rare antelopes and wild elephants.

Elephant-back safaris are the best way of getting through the park, lifting you above the tall grass of the Terai and through the dense undergrowth of the jungle to areas that are impossible to reach by car. You'll also explore the region by jeep, on foot and perhaps by canoe. Each method of travel has its advantages and makes the most of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
