Marrakech - Morocco

Description
Marrakech is loved by travellers for its incredible atmosphere, the souks (markets) with their narrow lanes stuffed with goodies from carpets to lanterns to spices and slippers, and of course the Djemma el Fna. This five-day trip gives you time to explore all it has to offer, and you could even be back at the office on Thursday! Or perhaps not...
We collect you from the airport and take you to your riad, which will be your home for the next four nights. This is simple, but very comfortable, and a great base for your stay.
The next day we give you a half day city tour, with a guide showing you some of the sites and helping you get your bearings for the next few days. Then it's up to you, with two and half days to explore as you please.
There are masses of museums, palaces and tombs and, of course, shopping galore! The food is great here, too, so in the evenings try out some of the excellent restaurants. One 'must-do' is an evening in the Djemma el Fna, the main square where hundreds of people congregate each evening to socialise, eat and enjoy the entertainments such as acrobats, fire eaters, storytellers and musicians. Marrakech new town is a great place for shopping too, and you could also get a horse-drawn carriage to the outskirts of town to see the beautiful Majorelle Gardens of Yves St Laurent.
You could easily fill all your time in Marrakech alone, but we give you the option to Make it Yours with a range of activities. Why not take home the ability to recreate the taste of the city by attending a Moroccan cooking class? Or try your hand at a pottery workshop? Or, if you're feeling adventurous, why not go rafting in Ourika valley, or take a day trek and overnight in the stunning Atlas Mountains?
If you want to see even more of this region, and would really rather not be back in the office on Thursday, you can extend this holiday with one of our extensions. You could choose to explore the deserts and gorges or to journey to the lovely fishing port of Essaouira. Or do both!

Detailed Itinerary
- DAY 1 (Sat): Fly from UK to Marrakech (if flights selected). On arrival in Marrakesh, you will be met and transferred to your riad. The rest of the day is free.
- DAY 2 (Sun): This morning you will have a half day city tour. Your guide will show you around some of the city’s sites including the souk, and give you your bearings for your next few days in this lovely city. Rest of the day free. (B)
- DAYS 3-4 (Mon-Tues): You have two full days explore the city. Don’t forget to take a look at the gorgeous Majorelle Gardens (perhaps take a horse drawn caleche here, it’s not far), and there are lots of museums, palaces and tombs to explore too. Otherwise simply wandering the streets and the souks is absorbing. In the evenings, try out some of the city’s excellent restaurants, or head for the Djemaa el Fna square for some street stall food and local entertainment. (B)
- DAY 5 (Wed): Transfer to airport. If flights selected,return to UK.
Getting there
Royal Air Maroc has daily flights to Marrakech via Casablanca throughout the year, though many travellers choose the no-frills airlines such as Ryanair for better prices and a direct flight to Marrakech. We can arrange flights for you (we are ATOL bonded)

For every client we take on holiday we plant 10 indigenous tree saplings. This is used as a poverty alleviation and biodiversity scheme as well as helping with carbon offsetting.

Our registered charity, The Tribes Foundation, is currently raising funds for a project in Morocco. The kindness of strangers can make a big difference, so if you’re a travel philanthropist considering donating to a worthwhile charity, please consider backing this excellent community project.
In Morocco we are raising funds for a village about 1½ hours drive from Marrakech. The inhabitants are extremely poor and live from subsistant farming and breeding goats as well as the making of traditional plain pottery. The inhabitants of the village do a great damage to the environment by cutting wood and the rare bushes that grow in this area. Our program with the people in this village is to help them understand the danger of destroying their environment that way and trying to help them find other alternatives. We are also helping the pre-school here too.

Marrakech and the Atlas
This holiday takes you to southern Morocco, where you explore Marrakech and then spend three days trekking through beautiful mountain scenery in the Atlas Mountains, staying in remote Berber villages. A really special way to see this lovely part of this fascinating country.
