Tiger Tiger safari Tour India

Description

This tiger tour in India offers you the best chance of spotting tigers in the wild as it takes you on safari in both Bandhavgarh and Kanha National Parks, both well known for their tiger populations.

The scenery at both parks is truly beautiful and they are sufficiently different to each other to merit being visited on the same trip. As well as tigers, there is a good chance of seeing a wide variety of Indian wildlife, including leopard, hyena, wolf, jackal, deer and monkeys. Accommodation in the parks is in small lodges offering simple accommodation and attentive service.

Your tiger tour starts in the capital, Delhi, with time to see the sights of this great city or just relax. You travel to Bandhavgarh by overnight train and car, arriving in time for afternoon game viewing. There are two more full days for you to spend exploring this lovely park with its varied habitats. Expert guides will ensure excellent game viewing.

After a morning game drive, you'll continue to Kanha where, again, you have 2 full days of game viewing activities, including game drives, elephant-back safaris and guided nature walks. Kanha boasts a high density of wildlife and has some truly stunning scenery, making a magnificent backdrop to your game drives. Visits to local villages can also be arranged.

After a final morning game drive, you will be taken to the city of Nagpur which has good flight connections to Mumbai to connect with international flights or perhaps continue to the beach.

Detailed Itinerary

  1. DAY 1: On arrival in Delhi you will be met at the airport and transferred to your city centre hotel. The afternoon is free to relax and recover from your flights, but if you are feeling active we can organise a city tour on this afternoon.
  2. DAY 2: The morning is free in Delhi. You will have the opportunity for a city tour or if you are feeling more adventurous we can arrange an insightful tour of Delhi's slums. Alternatively, you could relax by the hotel pool. In the afternoon, you will be taken to Delhi's train station, where our experienced local agents will guide you through the chaos and see you to your berth. Spend the night in an air-conditioned sleeper train to Katni. It probably won't be the most comfortable night you've ever had, but bedding is provided and it is a great way to meet Indian travellers and see India's famous trains for yourself. (B)
  3. DAY 3: Your train is due to arrive in the town of Katni early in the morning, although delays of an hour or two are not uncommon. Regardless of any delays, you will be met on the platform in Katni and drive to your lodge on the outskirts of Bandhavgarh National Park. If the trains are on time, you should arrive in time for a late breakfast and a chance to relax or explore the lodge grounds before lunch. In the afternoon, your first game drive will be arranged inside Bandhavgarh National Park.(B, L, D)
  4. DAYS 4-5: Two full days of game viewing will be arranged in Bandhavgarh National Park. Bandhavgarh has varied terrain, with fields of sal forest, deciduous forest and grassland plains. Apart from the tigers, Bandhavgarh is home to a wide range of other species including sambar deer, spotted deer, four-horned antelope and nilgai or blue bull, the largest Asian antelope. Jungle cat, hyena, wild boar and Indian wolf are also occasionally sighted. The elusive leopard is rarely seen, but you may be lucky! There are also numerous primates and about 250 species of birds, so there will be plenty to see on your game drives. (B, L, D)
  5. DAY 6: After your morning game drive in Bandhavgarh National Park, you will be driven to Kanha National park. The journey takes about 5 or 6 hours passing through small towns and villages, and we'll provide a boxed lunch to take with you on the way. (B, L, D)
  6. DAYS 7-8: These days are devoted to game viewing in Kanha. Surrounding the national park is a large buffer area and together these make up the Kanha Tiger Reserve, one of the largest tiger reserves in the world. The vegetation consists mainly of sal forest, along with some bamboo forests and grasslands. While searching for tigers you are sure to see some of the other 22 species of mammals and the 200 or so species of bird. These will be full days and between game drives you can relax at the lodge and maybe take a dip in the pool. (B, L, D)
  7. DAY 9: A final morning game drive will give you a last chance to search for tigers and tick off the last of the wildlife from your list. After returning to your lodge, will be driven to the industrial city of Nagpur, about a 5 hour journey, where your tour ends at the airport. If you have arranged flights with us, you will be flown to Mumbai on the evening flight where you will be met at the domestic airport and transfered to the international airport to check in for your flight home. (B)

Is it for you?

This is an easy trip not requiring any special level of fitness. Accommodation is simple but comfortable, with the emphasis very much on the game viewing. The trip includes an overnight train journey in the best class of sleeper accommodation available.

Best times to go

Bandhavgarh and Kanha close in the monsoon from July to mid-October. The vegetation can be very dense after the monsoon, so spotting wildlife can be difficult until after the winter when the vegetation dies down. The winter months from December to February can be chilly, especially early in the morning, while the temperatures start to soar from April onwards.

Getting there

You need to fly and into Delhi and out of Nagpur. We can arrange these flights from the UK, or can arrange flights from Nagpur to Mumbai at the end of your trip if required. You would normally fly from the UK on the night flight the day before the start of ths itinerary and on the way back your flight Nagpur via Mumbai would get you back to the UK the day after this itinerary.

Responsible Travel

How your holiday helps:
Employment of local people as drivers and guides and lodge staff at the National Park areas.
Tiger tourism can be an emotive subject. We are of the opinion that without tourism tigers would stand little to no chance of surviving in the wild for very long. At its best, tourism helps protect their habitat, encourages local people to protect them (or at least not persecure them), and helps pay for their conservation. The lodges we use on this trip share our ethics and in particular Nature Heritage at Bandhavgargh is heavilly involved with both conservation and community support.

Carbon Offsetting:
For every client we take on holiday we plant 10 tree saplings. This is used as a poverty alleviation and biodiversity scheme as well as helping with carbon offsetting. Click for more details…

Giving to grassroots projects:
Our registered charity, The Tribes Foundation, is currently raising funds for a projects in a number of countries. The kindness of strangers can make a big difference, so if you’re a travel philanthropist considering donating to a worthwhile charity, please consider backing one of our excellent community or conservation projects.

You can find further information about our current projects here http://www.the-tribes-foundation.org/.
