Description
This 5 day extension is designed to be added on to our Ecuador and Galapagos trips. You could fit this in either before or after your main trip, and it can also be combined with our other extensions, depending on your time restrictions.
From Quito you take a late morning flight to Coca, about 45 minutes. From Coca you travel by motorized canoe boat along the Rio Napo to your rainforest jungle lodge. The boat trip is about 3 hours along the Amazon tributary. We then transfer to dugouts and paddle across Challuacocha Lake to a remote lodge owned and operated by members of the Sani Isla community. It's an ecolodge with 10 thatched wooden cabins, all solar powered, so no noisy generators to drown out the magical nights sounds of the jungle!
You'll have two full days to enjoy the flora and fauna of the rainforest. The wildlife here is incredible, with monkeys, caimans, insects, frogs, lizards, 80 species of bat.....and the 550 bird species make it an absolute birdwatchers paradise! There's so much to see and do here, exploring the jungle is a true adventure. Activities include hiking, canoeing, birdwatching, fishing, visiting the parrot clay lick in Yasuni National Park (extra cost) visiting the local village, night hikes and caiman watching. Just a 10 minute walk through the forest will bring you to a 100ft high tree tower for you to climb. Looking out across the rainforest canopy at this level gives you a unique perspective, opening up a whole new Amazon world that's often missed!
After 3 nights in the rainforest you'll fly back to Quito, where you will be transferred to your hotel for the night. The following day in Quito is free for you to do as you please, before any onward arrangements.
